Optimize your infrastructure resources
VMware rightsizing: optimize vCenter and ESXi virtual machines
Identify oversized VMware VMs and prepare rightsizing using vCenter/ESXi inventory, available measurements and prioritized optimization recommendations.
Try on my infrastructureData and limits to check
- vCenter/ESXi inventory, hosts, VMs and allocated vCPU/vRAM.
- CPU, memory, peaks and datastore pressure where measurements are available.
Turn measurements into decisions
- Link inventory to available measurements over a representative period, including peaks and scheduled jobs.
- Compare allocated resources with observed usage. Review memory, business criticality and dependencies before reducing capacity.
- Review GO, PREPARE or KEEP recommendations, approve the change and check its effect. A recommendation does not replace your approval.
Decision example, without guaranteed savings
An 8-vCPU VM appears lightly loaded. Before moving to 4 vCPUs, review peaks, memory and monthly jobs. If representative measurements are missing, prepare further observation rather than an immediate reduction.
Coverage depends on the connector, permissions and collected metrics. Inventory alone does not prove a machine can be downsized. Cost, energy and CO₂ remain estimates when the required inputs are not measured.
